Kirsti Moose-McConkey

Senior Research Administrator

Responsibilities

Kirsti manages research administration for the Department of Biomedical Engineering. She is responsible for assisting research faculty with grant proposal preparation and submission. She also coordinates with colleagues in the Office of Sponsored Programs to assist with other pre- and post-award needs in the department, such as post-submission requests, reporting, and grant expense planning and monitoring."

Education

Kirsti graduated from Appalachian State University in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Religion and the University of Virginia in May 2017 with a master's degree in South Asian Languages and Cultures. She is currently a doctoral student in Virginia Tech's Center for Public Administration and Policy (CPAP), working towards a PhD in Public Administration and Policy Affairs

Certifications

As of June 2024, Kirsti is a Certified Research Administrator (CRA) with the Research Administrators Certification Council. 

Background

Kirsti joined Virginia Tech and BME in March 2022. Previously, Kirsti worked at the University of Virginia, first in the School of Medicine’s Office of Grants and Contracts and then as a departmental grant administrator for various divisions in the Department of Medicine. She has been working in research administration since June 2017 and has experience working with a variety of sponsors and program types. Kirsti was recognized at the 2025 Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI) Annual Meeting as a Future of the Field Honoree.
